AMERICA I AM: Across America
America I AM Across America, a national traveling exhibit, is coming to The Museum of Mobile in historic downtown for a one day showing on Sunday, July 20, 2008, 11am to 5pm. America I AM Across America will travel the country providing visitors with a sneak preview of the America I AM: The African American Imprint exhibition. This nationwide preview will give a glimpse into the celebration of 400 years of African American contributions to the nation. A microcosm of the larger exhibition, this mini museum on wheels will be a multi-sensory experience complete with video, music and visitor interactive opportunities.
Developed in partnership with The Smiley Group, Inc., organized by Arts and Exhibitions International (AEI) and sponsored by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. the mini museum preview will tell the story of the nation’s African people and their legacies through every period of U.S. history. “What Is My Imprint?” will allow visitors to record their own thoughts and voices as they exit, thereby creating a living imprint archive that will grow with each museum stop.
“The Museum of Mobile is very fortunate to host the exhibit even for this very brief stopover and we are especially glad to offer it to our community as a FREE experience,” said Sheila Flanagan, assistant director.
