Let the Good Times Roll!
January 11, 2008, the Museum of Mobile will be unveiling magnificent pieces from its Mardi Gras collection that will now be on permanent display in the upstairs gallery.
Known as the Mother of Mystics, Mobile’s unique 300+ history of the country’s first carnival celebration will be told through Mardi Gras King and Queen trains and other royal regalia, the colorful costumes of Maskers, parade Marshals, and float riders.
This exhibit, representing both the Mobile Carnival Association (MCA) and
the Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association (MAMGA) will also include float design and tableau artwork, society members’ ball favors (gifts given as mementoes of the evening), ball invitations and a comprehensive timeline of significant moments in Mobile’s Mardi Gras history dating to 1704.
Special highlights include:
· Costumes never seen on exhibit
· Special Mardi Gras Merchandise on sale in the Museum’s gift store, the Shop in the Southern Market.
· Complimentary commemorative doubloons for every attendee
